1. What this module does

Simple Modal Popup displays a popup window on your PrestaShop storefront. Use it to share announcements, discount codes, newsletter invitations or important notices with your visitors.

The popup is the native Bootstrap modal of your theme (Bootstrap 4 on Classic in PrestaShop 1.7.8 and 8.x, Bootstrap 5 on Hummingbird in PrestaShop 9.x), so it looks like the other windows of your shop and adds no third-party library.

Works with PrestaShop 1.7.8, 8.x and 9.x (PHP 7.2.5 or newer) and with multistore.

2. Installation

  1. Download the module from My account → Order history at addonspresta.com.
  2. In your Back Office, open Modules → Module Manager and click Upload a module.
  3. Drop the ap_simplepopup_v1.0.1.zip file and wait for the confirmation.
  4. Click Configure on the module card.

If you have shell access to your server, you can also unpack the archive into modules/ and run php bin/console prestashop:module install ap_simplepopup from the shop root directory.

3. How it works

The module adds the popup before the end of the page (displayBeforeBodyClosingTag) and loads a small script with it. When a visitor opens a page, the script checks whether they have already closed the current popup. If not, it waits for the configured delay and opens the modal.

The visitor's choice is remembered in a cookie as soon as they close the popup in any way — the close button, the Escape key, a click outside the window — or click a link inside it. The popup does not come back until the cookie expires. When you change the title or the content, every visitor sees the new popup once, even if they closed the previous one. To show an unchanged popup to everyone again, use Show the popup again to everyone.

The popup never appears on the cart and checkout pages, so it does not interrupt an order.

All settings are stored in the standard PrestaShop configuration, per shop. The module does not alter core database tables and never connects to any external server.

4. Features and settings

Open Modules → Module Manager → Simple Modal Popup → Configure. At the top of the configuration page, a Help box links to this manual in your language and to the module page at addonspresta.com, and shows the support address and the module version.

Enable popup

Switches the popup on or off in the storefront without uninstalling the module or losing your texts.

Display target

Choose where the popup appears:

  • All pages: every storefront page except the cart and checkout.
  • Homepage only: only the shop's home page.

Display delay (seconds)

Time between loading the page and opening the popup. Enter 0 to show it immediately or a few seconds (for example 3–5) so that visitors see the page first. Allowed values: 0 to 60.

Cookie lifetime (days)

How many days the shop remembers that a visitor closed the popup. Enter 0 to remember it only until the browser is closed, or 1 to 365 days (default 7).

Popup title

Optional title in the header of the window, separate for each language. A language without a title uses the title of the shop's default language; leave the field empty in the default language for a popup without a title.

Popup content

The content of the popup, edited with the visual editor: text, headings, links, images, buttons or discount codes, separate for each language. The content is required in the shop's default language — an empty paragraph does not count. A language without its own content shows the content of the default language.

Show the popup again to everyone

Turn this switch on and save to show the popup again to every visitor, including those who have already closed it — for example when a promotion starts again with the same text. The switch is off by default and turns itself off after saving, so a normal save never resets the popup.

5. Multistore

Settings are saved for the shop or shop group selected in the Back Office header. Select All shops to use the same popup everywhere, or switch to one shop to give it its own texts, delay and display target. The dismissal cookie is separate for each shop; a reset made in All shops or in a shop group shows the popup again in every shop of that selection. In the All shops or group context only an employee who manages every shop of it can save. One licence covers all shops of your installation.

6. Uninstall

Open Modules → Module Manager → Simple Modal Popup → Uninstall. Uninstalling deletes all settings of the module. To pause the popup without losing your texts, turn off Enable popup or disable the module instead.

7. FAQ and troubleshooting

The popup does not appear in my shop. Check that Enable popup is on and that you are not on the cart or checkout page. If you have already closed the popup, delete the shop's cookies in your browser or open the shop in a private window. Then clear the cache in Advanced Parameters → Performance.

I changed the popup but my customers say they still do not see it. After a change of the title or the content, the popup appears again to everyone, after the configured delay. If the target is Homepage only, it appears only on the home page.

Can I style the popup to match my theme? The popup uses the standard Bootstrap modal markup and inherits the modal styles, fonts and buttons of your theme. For your own adjustments, use the classes .ap-simplepopup, .ap-simplepopup__title, .ap-simplepopup__body and .ap-simplepopup__close in your theme's stylesheet.

Can I show the popup only to some customers? Yes, a developer can do it with the module hook actionApSimplepopupDisplay — see README.md in the module folder.

Does the module slow down my shop? No. It adds a small window and a short script, and only on pages where the popup is shown.

8. Updates and support

Updates are free for life: download new versions from My account → Order history at addonspresta.com and upload them like a new module. Your settings and texts are kept.

Support is included for 12 months from your order: write to mail@addonspresta.com or use the contact form at addonspresta.com (Monday to Friday, 10:00–16:00 CET; we usually answer within 2 business days). Please include your PrestaShop version, the module version and a description of the problem.
