1. What this module does
The module adds your own tabs to product pages — "Delivery", "Returns", "Size guide" and anything else that is the same for many products. You write each tab once, in every language, with the same text editor as product descriptions. A tab can appear on all products or only on products of chosen categories or brands. You decide the order of the tabs and switch each one on or off without losing its text.
The tabs are shown the way your theme shows product tabs: as tabs next to Description and Product details in the Classic theme, as sections of the product accordion in Hummingbird.
Works with PrestaShop 1.7.8, 8.x and 9.x (PHP 7.2.5 or newer), with the Classic and Hummingbird themes and with multistore.
2. Installation
- Download the module from My account → Order history at addonspresta.com.
- In your Back Office, open Modules → Module Manager and click Upload a module.
- Drop the
ap_producttabs_v1.0.1.zipfile and wait for the confirmation. - Click Configure on the module card.
The module is installed without any tab. Add the first one with the + button above the list.
3. How it works
On every product page, the module takes the enabled tabs of the current shop in the order of the list and keeps those that apply to the product:
- All products — the tab is shown everywhere.
- Products in the categories below — the product must be assigned to at least one ticked category. Every category of the product counts, not only its main category. Subcategories are not added automatically: tick them too when their products should show the tab.
- Products of the brands below — the brand of the product must be one of the ticked brands. Products without a brand never show such a tab.
The module passes the tabs to PrestaShop as "extra content" of the product page (the displayProductExtraContent
hook), and your theme draws them. They appear after the theme's own tabs. If several modules add tabs, their order
follows Design → Positions for that hook.
Texts are shown in the visitor's language. A language left empty uses the text of the default language. When you
save, PrestaShop's HTML cleaner (HTMLPurifier, if it is on in Shop Parameters → General) cleans the content,
and the module refuses scripts, event attributes, links that run code (such as javascript:) and page-level
<style>, <link>, <meta> and <base> tags and SVG animations, also when HTMLPurifier is off. Iframes, such as an embedded
video, are accepted only when Allow iframes on HTML fields is on in the same page.
The module needs no particular shop setting. It creates its own database tables, does not change PrestaShop tables and does not connect to addonspresta.com or any other server. The tabs appear on the product page only, not in the quick view of product lists.
4. Features and settings
Open Modules → Module Manager → Shared Product Tabs → Configure. The Help box at the top links to this manual and to the module page at addonspresta.com, in the language of your Back Office.
List of tabs
The list shows the tabs of the shops selected in the Back Office header: ID, title, where the tab is shown, status and position.
- Status — click the icon to switch a tab on or off. A disabled tab keeps its text.
- Position — the arrows move a tab one place up or down. Tabs appear on the product page in this order.
- Edit — opens the form of the tab.
- Delete — asks for confirmation, then deletes the tab. In multistore it is removed only from the shops selected in the header (see Multistore).
Tab form
- Tab title — the name on the tab, for example "Delivery". Required in the default language, up to 255 characters, plain text.
- Content — the text of the tab, with the editor: headings, lists, tables, links, images. Required in the default language.
- Where to show — all products, products in the categories below or products of the brands below.
- Categories — the category tree; tick the categories for the second option.
- Brands — the list of your brands; tick the brands for the third option.
- Enabled — shows or hides the tab in the shop.
- Shops — in multistore only: the shops where the tab appears.
Use the language selector next to the title and content fields to write each language. Languages you leave empty get the text of the default language when you save.
5. Multistore
Each tab belongs to one or more shops. The list shows the tabs of the shop or shop group selected in the Back Office header; select All shops to see them all. You only see the tabs of the shops you have access to.
- A new tab is offered for the shops of the current selection; change them in the Shops field. An employee who works on one shop only does not see this field: their tabs belong to that shop.
- Title, content, status, position and where the tab is shown are common to all its shops.
- Delete removes the tab from the shops selected in the header. The tab is deleted completely once it is in no shop any more; with All shops selected it is deleted at once.
- An employee who can work only on some shops edits, switches on or off and moves only the tabs that appear in their shops alone. A tab shared with other shops stays as it is and shows a message; Delete removes it from the employee's shops only, and the other shops keep it.
One licence covers every shop of the installation.
6. Uninstall
Module Manager → Shared Product Tabs → Uninstall deletes the module's tables with all tabs and their texts. This cannot be undone. To hide the tabs and keep them, use Disable instead. Reset also deletes the tabs.
7. FAQ and troubleshooting
A tab does not appear on a product.
Check that the tab is enabled, that it belongs to the shop you are looking at, and that the product matches: it
must be assigned to a ticked category (Catalog → Products → product → Categories) or have a ticked brand. If none
of your tabs appears, check in Design → Positions that the module is attached to displayProductExtraContent,
then clear the cache in Advanced Parameters → Performance.
My theme shows no tab at all.
Some custom themes do not display the extra content of the product page. The Classic and Hummingbird themes do. Ask
your theme's author to display product.extraContent on the product page.
A tab shows English text in my Polish or French shop. That language was left empty, so the default language is used. Edit the tab and fill in that language.
Can I add a video? Yes, if Allow iframes on HTML fields is on in Shop Parameters → General. Otherwise the module refuses the iframe when you save.
Can I change how a tab looks?
Yes. The content is shown with the classes of your theme's product description. You can also copy
views/templates/hook/tab-content.tpl to themes/<your-theme>/modules/ap_producttabs/views/templates/hook/ and edit
the copy (then clear the cache in Advanced Parameters → Performance), or style the .ap-producttabs-tab class in
your theme.
8. Updates and support
Updates are free for life: download new versions from My account → Order history at addonspresta.com and upload them like a new module. Your tabs are kept.
Support is included for 12 months from your order: write to mail@addonspresta.com or use the contact form at addonspresta.com (Monday to Friday, 10:00–16:00 CET; we usually answer within 2 business days). Please include your PrestaShop version, the module version and the steps that lead to the problem.
